With the rapid economic development and the increase of population in recent years, the environment for survival of historic districts is damaged and eroded day by day. Architecture protection and renewal planning of historical districts have become hot topics. This issue used Geographic Information System (GIS) which is the core of digital technology to the architecture protection and planning update; transformed the qualitative analysis of the traditional planning model into the quantitative analysis; controlled the development of historical districts and protection the effective using of resources by the establishment of mathematical model.At the same time, taken Chengzheng Street in Xiangtan which has significant research value and historical district features for an example;applied ArcGIS to the architectural protection and planning innovative. By the establishment of property database, analysis of property condition, modeling of mathematical model development intensity, programming operations and other methods, concluded the scientific and effective graph of architectural protection and renewal mode. Through the operational results of development intensity in mathematical model, obtained the best development mode of residential and commercial, and prospects for the next work. Through the study of the development mathematical models, editing the building conservation and renovation plan by GIS. Provide reference and research for the widely application in urban planning in the future.
