| Due to the high level of information technology, more and more information systems have been applicated to all related units and the power sector, however, in so many years the meter reading model still have not been any major changes, currently, the main approach is still based on manual meter reading. This meter model is not only to spend a lot of material and human resources, more serious is the meter does not guarantee the timeliness of data and accuracy.This paper analysed and comparised the existing manual meter reading, wired meter reading and wireless meter reading and proposed a wireless meter reading solution based on the ZigBee technology. Wireless meter reading uses the short distance wireless communication technology and computer network technologies and so on to read meter automately and process the data. Through analysis of the ZigBee network topology structure, and the characteristics of residential electricity users, this paper adopts ZigBee concentrator and a number of smart meters as terminal nodes to form the wireless meter reading network. This paper applied CC2430 MCU supporting the ZigBee protocol to the design of electronic energy meter directly, so that intelligent terminals could send out the users' energy data directly by wireless; and designed the coordinator and end-node software process and programmed for the node. At last ,this paper introduced the simulated experiment of the wireless meter reading system to test the feasibility of design ideas in this paper.
