With the rapid development of science and technology, the popularity of smart residential community is an inevitable trend in urban planning. In the community, the automatic collection and intelligent management of heat meters, water meters, electricity meters and other types is the urgent problems that we need to solve. In recent years, in order to reduce energy waste, heating companies are transforming ways from the traditional methord which is charging in accordance with the area of monthly fees to another way which is a more reasonable method according to heat metering. However, most of areas still use current way of manual meter reading. Manual operation is not only time-consuming and laborious, time span, but also may occur series of issues such as leakage and wrong meter reading. In recent years, the rapid development of wireless communication technology, has made wireless automatic meter reading technology maturely. Wireless automatic meter reading system not only operate simple, accurate, fast and efficient, but also reads the data in real time and monitors conveniently. Therefore, it makes the automatic meter reading system intelligent.A set of remote wireless meter reading system is designed in this paper, which is based on ZigBee technology, GPRS technology and LabVIEW. ZigBee technology has the characters of low consumption, reliable data transmission, high network capacity and other advantages. Short distance wireless local area network formed by ZigBee and GPRS remote communication technology enable wireless meter reading data management system reliable, accurately and swift. The management system can monitor and manage all calorimeters simply.The whole wireless meter reading system is made up of heat meter data acquisition modules, router modules, data concentrator modules and remote data management centers. The heat meter data acquisition modules consists of meter data acquisition based on M-Bus technology and ZigBee wireless terminal nodes. The mainly task of collector can be described as data acquisition, processing and upload. Data transfer station is actually ZigBee network routing node which is in order to increase the coverage area of the ZigBee network and ensure reliable transmission distance.Data concentrator formed by ZigBee coordinator, GPRS wireless module and control circuit. It is responsible for all of the calorimeters management with in ZigBee network, including data collection, transmission, remote control commands issued. The remote data management center is able to monitor the user’s meters in real-time. Through the analysis of the use of heat data and indoor temperature, managers can make reasonable heating strategy so as to save resources, and also control the user heat meter report printing, send operation command to remote controller.The text result on the sites shows that the wireless heat meter reading and management system not only can accomplish data acquisition and transmission accurately and quickly, but also has anti-interference ability. Therefore, the system has great value and broad market prospects.
