Study On The Development Strategy Of Dryland Agriculture In Shanxi Province

Drought is the main meteorological disasters in Shanxi province and also is the main restrictive factor for the development of agriculture and rural economy. It not only caused the low and unstable agricultural production, the difficulties for increase the farmers' income and the large area of poverty, but also caused the reduction of vegetation, soil erosion, weakness of ecology and low ability for sustainable development. Dryland agriculture is the strategic selection and the only way for the development of agriculture and rural economy in Shanxi province. To make profound study on the development strategy of dryland agriculture in Shanxi province not only has theoretical meaning but also has higher practical value to increase the grain production ability, to enhance the strategic structure modification of agriculture and rural economy, to increase the farmer's income and the construction of a better off society.Based on the review and summary of dryland agriculture development both at home and abroad and especially in Shanxi province, the article analyzed the productive potential and the limitation factors in relation to natural, scientific, economic, social and market which influences the development of dryland agriculture in Shanxi province and proposed the guiding ideology and target for dryland agriculture development as well as creatively proposed the regional program for dryland agriculture in Shanxi province. (They are: the semi arid warm and cold region in the medium temperate zone in the north of Shanxi, the semi arid warm region in the warm and temperate zone in the middle of Shanxi, the semi arid warmer region in the temperate and warm zone in the south of Shanxi, the semi moist region in the warm and temperate zone in the west of Taihang mountains, the semi moist cool region in the warm and temperate zone in Wutai and Luliang mountains and the semi arid warm region in the warm and temperate zone in the west of Shanxi.) Based on the analysis of the natural conditions and the main issues influencing the agricultural production in each region, it has proposed the development orientation and constructive models for each region. In addition, it has proposed the scientific scheme construction for the completion of dryland agriculture including two systems, two bases and ten technologies. At last, the article has put forward 4 recommendations concerning the key measures for dryland agricultural development in Shanxi province.
