Studies On Shrub Standards

Shrub standards refers to those shrubs and climbing plants with a shape similar to trees instead of shrubs. They differ from other shrubs with single, trunk-like main stem with all branches gathering on the top and without side shoots below.Because of special shape and decorative effect, they have shown a good market potential in landscape gardening.Systematic research has been executed on the developing history, taxonomy, culture and the application in the gardening of shrub standards, in order to gain a full understanding of shrub standards.Firstly, the origin, development and evolution of shrub standards are summarized and it is pointed out that shrub standards is kind of topiary. Also discussed is the taxonomy and culture of shrub standards.Secondly, based on in situ investigation, the current situation of the production and application of shrub standards in domestic market is summed up and found that there lack of experience on the selection of plant material and application in landscape gardening and lead to big potential in production. Through analyzing the result of experiment, it shows that it is possible to produce shrub standards within short period by the way of top grafting and stubble of level ground.Finally, the author's opinion is given on the way how to apply the shrub standards in the landscape. "Beidaihe Model Garden for Shrub Standards Welcoming the Olympic Games" is planned and designed to give some ideas and the market potential is predicted.By these new studies,try to draw a conclusion of how to use the shrub standards in landscape gardening,and bring some good ideas to others a father study,promote the apply of landscape in modern China.
