Bamboo is a high-valued economic plant, which plays a very importantrole in our daily life. Scale insect is one of the major pest species groups which live on bamboos and prevents the national bamboo industry from healthy development. Therefore, to explore the scale insects on banboos is of great meaning.This paper includes two parts.The first part: The morphological characters of the mealybugs(24 species belonging to 18 genera) on bamboos in China were elaborately studied and 11 species among them were illustrated. Keys to the 24 species and 18 gengera were also given.Based on the catalogue of scale insects (127 species belonging to 40 genera and 6 families) living on bamboos, the second part has analyzed the host ranges, parasite parts and distribution of bamboo scale insects in China. The results show that: 1) bamboo scale insects are comparatively host-specific group; 2) leaves host most species of scale insects; 3) the species richness in zoogeographical region of China is: South-China Region > Central China Region > Southwest China Region > North China Region > Mengxin Region > Qiangzang Region > Northeast China Region; three quarter of scale species on bamboo in China originate from east Asia area.In addition, based on the extensive collection of data, it has listed the names of mealybugs on bamboos all over the world.
