Arbuscular mycorrhizae fungi is a kind of useful soil microorganism that distributes in the soil system extensively; it can form symbiosis with host plant above 90%. The symbiosis can promote host plant to absorb soil mineral element, regulate internal metabolizal activity and improve stress tolerance of plant. The nitrogen is the main composition of protein, whether nitrogen supply well or not and nutrient quality in plant, affect the growth condition of the plant to a large extent.Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz. is a perennial herbs of Compositae which roots are used as medicine.Pot experiment was conducted to study the related effect of AM fungi on growth and quality of Atractylodes macrocephala with a view to promoting plant growth and enhance its medicinal ingredients. We hope it can satisfy to the demand of the market and to provide the basis for AM fungi in the application of medicinal plants. The main results are following:1.The results showed that AM fungi and Atractylodes macrocephala had formed symbioses efficiently. Amount of nitrogen applied in soil affected the formation and development of symbioses between AM fungi and the plant directly. Inoculating AM fungi significantly increased mycorrhizal infection rate at 0-0.45 g N per kg level. When amount of nitrogen applied was 0.45 g N per kg soil, the best result was gotten whether inoculation or not.The infection rate reached 79.55%(GM) and 50.42%(CK). but high nitrogen level restricted AM fungi infection.2. Inoculating AM fungi had an obviously effect, it had promoted the growth amount especially the dry weight of the underground part. AM fungi influenced plant growth through the promotion to the roots at first. It moderated the aboveground and the underground part, and with the nitrogen made the plant have a good Root/shoot ratio in the growth period.3.At the suitable nitrogen levels,AM fungi application had increased the contents of photosynthetic pigment, total soluble sugar soluble protein reducing sugar in the leaves and the active of the protective enzymes were increased as well as the content of N and P in the plant and enhance photosynthetic efficiency. So it reduced the plant had the ability of...
