From 2004 to 2005, field experiment was conduted in Laiyang, and the effect of nitrogen and potassiumon production and quality of Glehnia littorralis was studied under different four nitrogen and potassiumdose amount , and popular cultivar Dahongpao was used for stuied in this experiment, to find the optimalfertilization scheme for Glehnia littorralis for high production and best quality.Main results were asfollowing:1. The influence of nitrogen on the growth of Glehnia littorralisUnder 210kg per hectare nitrogen applied amount level, the morphogical indices and dry matteraccumulation were all increased with more nitrogen supply, and there was good coordination between theaboveground and underground growth. However, 315kg per hectare nitrogen supply caused that theaboveground parts grew more fast than the underground, and induced the adiposity, so the nitrogenpotassium matches could coordinate the growth of the overground and the underground.2. The effects of nitrogen dose on physiological and biochemistrical characteristics of Glehnia littorralisThe suitable nitrogen supplied amount could increase leaf chlorophyll content, photosynthesis rate andthe dry matter accumulation, and enhance leaf blade SPS and SS activity and the polysaccharide content inthe root of Glehnia littorralis and the root production. However, the excessive nitrogen supply inducedlower SPS and SS activity and root polysaccharide content, hampered the carbonhyate transport fromabove ground to root, and caused lower production of Glehnia littorralis.3. The influence of nitrogen potassium matches on Glehnia littorralis prodution and qualityBelow 210kg nitrogen and 315kg per hectare potassium dose amount, the pruoduction and quanlity ofGlehnia littorralis was improved with increased supply of nitrogen and potassium. However, oversupplyinduced decreased production and quanlity, the nitrogen potassium matches could alliviate the the paasiveeffect of overdose of nitrogen on Glehnia littorralis. Applies fertilizer the level fertilizer effectivenessresponse equation through the Glehnia littorralis output to the nitrogen potassium. The highest production(6698.40kg/hm2) of the Glehnia littorralis could be attained when nitrogen 214.77kg/hm2 and potassium203.90kg/hm2 supplied, and the highest polysaccharide content was 35.32% with nitrogen 139.43kg/hm2and potassium 315kg/hm2 supplied, when nitrogen 159.15kg/hm2 and potassium 252.78kg/hm2 wereapplied, the highest soap glucoside content could be reached 2.79%.In conclusion, the best nitrogen and potassium applied amount was 170kg/hm2 and 260kg/hm2 to gethigh production and high quality in the Glehnia littorralis.
