Urban green spaces are universally valued as recreational areas, wildlife refuges and essential components of a livable-city. It also has great influences on citizen life quality, production of industry and agriculture, urban landscape etc. Thus it is significant to evaluate and analyze the ecological, economic and social benefits of urban green spaces. With the development of geographic information system (GIS) t, evaluating urban green spaces benefits by GIS is possible. This paper explores the quantitative evaluation model of urban green spaces benefits, develops the Shanghai City Green Space Benefits Evaluation Information System with the support of GIS. The main works of the paper are as follows.(1) Build a new quantitative evaluation model of urban green spaces benefits. Although there are several evaluation models now, but most of them are qualitative which are not accurate enough. The author builds up a new model which can quantitatively evaluate the ecological environment, economic and social benefits of urban green spaces. To build this model, the author did a lot of researches on measurement models and economics geographical models and tries many ways. An evaluation for Shanghai green spaces is applied as a case study to validate the model.(2) Develop an approach to calculate the holistic economic benefits of urban green space. And the contribution of green space to GDP of Shanghai was evaluated to validate the above method..(3 ) Develop a Desktop Shanghai City Green Space Benefits Evaluation Information System (DSHCGSBEIS).Geographic information system (GIS), as a spatial analyze tool, has being used in a lot of area, e.g. urban planning, military, tourism etc. But rarely has it been applied in the evaluation of urban green spaces benefits. Taking green spaces of Shanghai as an example, the author integrated the new model with GIS technology and develops the DSHCGSBEIS , which can realize...
