Mantodea is one of the most important natural enemies for many pests and the ootheca of many species can be used as medical resource, which was named "ootheca mantids" in China. The main content of this paper can be listed as follows:Firstly, the resource of Mantodea in Guizhou Province was investigated systematically, 15 genera 35 species belonging to 4 families were described in this paper, which including 2 new record genera, 4 new record species of Guizhou Province, and a new species. Some oothecaes were described also. The bionomics and distribution of each species were proposed briefly.Secondly, the biological character of Hierodula patellifera (Serville) was studied based on the breeding in the laboratory and investigating in the field, and the results show that it is feasible to breeding H. patellifera with aphids and fruit flies during the earlier nymphal stage and with Oxyza chinensis during the later nymphal stage and the adult when we fed it in laboratory. The average time of newly hatched nymphs need for retching adult is 87.6 days. Virgin mantis female exhibit a character of attracting males and after laid ootheceas, some of them still show this behavior, and we found that the female in laboratory in productive season attracted male in the same cage as well as in the outside field. A model for culture mantodea in the field and discussion of using it for biological control are proposed. Finally, the nutrient compositions of female H. Patellifera in the late autumn was studied. The results show that the main component of fresh species is water, it contains 67% moisture. The dry sample contains protein of 66.42%, ash of 3.60%, and total sugar of 1.01%, the total amino acids is 66.30%, the essential amino acids is 41.64%, and fatty content of H. Patellifera is low, about 14.25%, however unsaturated fatty acid is high in total fatty acids, about 63.13%. The minerals and essential trace elements are rich in this sample too. So H. Patellifera might be a natural resource with edible and pharmaceutics function and should be studied and applied wildly.Description of new species:Palaeothespis leigongshanensis Ge et Chen, sp. nov. (Figs. 11, 14, II-5, II-6)This species is similar to P. stictus Zhou et Shen, but differs from the latter in pronotum with three pairs of big disk-like cusps and in the colors of male tegmina with more dark brownish spots and in the special shape of the female's central dorsal of the abdominal segments- the lobes on the female's dossal portion of the abdominal segments divided into tow parts at it's end. All specimens, including the types of new species, are deposited in the Institute of Entomology, Guizhou University.Holotype ♂, paratype ♀, Leigongshan National Natural Reserve (1600m), Guizhou...
