There are lots of mountains and foothills in Guangxi province. Most of them was used to plant sugar lies in foothills and exists in the form of small areas. This will lead to a bad mechanized sugarcane harvest because of the characteristics of foothills in the aspect of having many sands, gravel slope, undulated terrains and inconvenient traffic. It is concluded that the manual way of sugarcane harvest in foothills still used,which will bring a great labor intensive, waste much more manpower and material, low the speed of sugarcane harvest and influence the quantity of sugarcane planting seriously.In this paper, the design program of caterpillar sugarcane harvester and the analysis function and principle of the components were presented and the program and design parameters with theoretical and practical significance were obtained after introducing the advantage of Small caterpillar sugarcane harvester and analyzing the principle of all components, characteristics of the structure design and selection of the design parameters.A better clamping program was obtained after simulating and analyzing the detrashing mechanism using different spiral angle based on ADAMS software. The main contents in this paper were concluded as follows:Firstly, the virtual prototype technology and ADAMS simulation software were introduced briefly.Secondly, a Caterpillar walking way was determined after analyzing many walking programs for small cane harvester. Then the principle and structure of the components of caterpillar sugarcane harvester which include sugarcane vertical components, sugarcane cutting tailor, sugarcane breaker and sugarcane collector were analyzed.Thirdly, the two ways was introduced in order to obtain a flexible rigid body. One of them is based on geometry solid model directly. The other way is to build a translation file which contained meshing data firstly using the finite element method, then build the flexible body automatically through the way of importing the file into ADAMS/Auto Flex module.Finally, the reasons to influence the effective of detrashing were found after building, simulating and analyzing the solid model by comparing performances among detrashing parts which were built in different clamping ways. It is concluded that detrashing mechanism has a better performance when the spiral angle is 70 degrees by comparing simulation data and analyzing the loading of sugarcane and effective of detrashing as well.
