As the main power of natural productivity in an urban , greenland plays an important role and is the ecological space in a city that can best reflect the ecology. Greenland is the heart of a city, an important index of the overall quality of the city, and a criterion for the living environment of the city's dwellers. It plays a leading role in improving the quality of the urban ecological environment, beautifying the urban landscape, and adjusting the urban ecological balance.In our country, the degree of fractionation of greenland is high,so it's difficult to gather the information of greenland with manual labor.To plan and manage greenland reasonably, we employ remote sensing to obtain the information for the covergage of greenland, and then build and manage the greenland database in the GIS environment.Using the new district of Urumqi as a case study, this work utilized the ActiveX control object"MapObjects"(which provides the capabilities of drawing and space analysis) and the VB programming environment, and developed a software system for classification and management of greenland information, based on geenspace's characteristics.At the same time, because there is no standard for the classification of greenland in our country, different regions and professions have different classification methods, leading to a larger arbitrariness in urban planning of greenland. To this end, we try to follow the original classification principle and build a greenland classification system from the perspective of system functions that is line with the objectives of system operations, by considering the different classification criteria.This study shows:by retrieving vector data of greenland and thematic data of greenland characteristics,one can carry out certain data processing and handling in the system, obtain greenland information, and achieve multiple enquiries, statistics, comparison, output, and other functions for the retrieved information.With greenland as the object, the computer as the carrier, the traditional theory of greenland as the basis, and modern programming language and GIS components as the means, this work establishes an advanced scientific information management system for greenland classification.As a tool for improving the management quality of urban greening, this software system can be used to solve the problem that greenland is widely distributed and there are large amounts of fast-changing data; at the same time, the software system can facilitate quicker ways for enquiries, statistics and dynamic management of greenland resources and accurate monitoring of the dynamics of greenland resources, providing the scientific basis for urban planning of greenland and also laying the groundwork for the automation and visualization of greenland management.
