Nowadays, World Wide Web and information techniques have been applied rapidly and prosperously into agriculture. However, the existing agricultural websites are mainly made by cultural static web page, which don't meet researchers' data query needs. Therefore, rapeseed genetic breeding research database has been firstly constructed for the daily management of rapeseed scientific research and postgraduates' research, on the basis of Browser/Server/Database web structure. This database system is constructed with the ASP & SQL Server classical combination. This database system is used for recording research program and postgraduate's research process and of benefit to supervisor guidance in time.According to long-term rapeseed breeding practices and accumulated experimental data analysis, the web database system can be divided into six parts, i.e., breeding, cultivar introduction, research program management, postgraduate, data query and user management in sequence. Postgraduate module is mainly used for postgraduates' research process and basic materials' management, postgraduates can periodically report their researches' process. Released rapeseed cultivar and accumulated valuable materials information in recent years and their alternated process are collected into breeding and cultivar introduction modules. Research program management module is used for documents management from research program application, process to ending and their ultimate reports. User access level, user identification techniques are used for system safety and data secrecy.Data query module is the key part of this database system. Based on field records and laboratory query needs, this module can be mainly divided into cultivar, field record and postgraduate document search systems. The above data is searched in exact/fuzzy, region and compound mode with SQL language. Moreover, indexing service of Windows 2000 operate system is used for postgraduate accumulated document query. In addition, data query is also characterized with high accuracy, friendly user operation interfaces, and easy updating and management.
