Both Cipadessa cinerascens and Tinospora sinensia are traditional ethnicMedicine. Cipadessa cinerascens belongs to the family Meliaceae. It has been usedfor the treatment of cold, malaria, bellyache, dysentery, rheumatism arthritis, skinitch, and so on. Tinospora sinensia belongs to the family Menispermaceae. It hasbeen used for the treatment of strain of lumber muscles and rheumatism arthritis, and so on. This thesis elaborated the studies on the chemical constituents of twospecies: Cipadessa cinerascens and Tinospora sinensia.Following are the main results:1. Twenty one compounds, including five new ones, were isolated from the stemsof Cipadessa cinerascens. Their structures were mainly elucidated on the basis ofspectroscopic studies. Five new compounds were named cipadesin D, cipadesin E,cipadesin F, cipadesin G, cipadesin H. The other 16 compotmds were isolated fromthis species for the first time.2. Seven compounds were isolated from the stems of Tinospora sinensia. Theirstructures were mainly elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic studies. All thesecompounds were isolated from this species for the first time.3. The review covers 110 literatures published between 1996 and 2006 abouttetranortriterpenoids compounds from Meliaceae. There were 239 naturaltetranortriterpenoids compounds from Meliaceae.
