Pinellia ternata is perennial herb, with its tuber has many pharmacological activities, such as eliminating dampness, resolving phlegm, down bear counter flow, widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. Pinellia ternata Jingzhou main produced in Jianghan Plain and is known as local herb by the word. In this study, we collected 18 populations of P.ternata which were mainly from Jingzhou to analysis the chemical composition systematically.1 Established the best method for pretreatment and found the best chromatographic conditions for chemical fingerprint of P. ternata: injected 20μL sample, eluted gradient with A(0.1% acetic acid methanol solution)- B(0.1% acetic acid aqueous solution) at the speed of 0.8ml/min under 265 nm, 30℃.2 Established the HPLC fingerprint of P. ternata in Jingzhou and found plenty of concentrated distribution small peaks, the chemical composition of P. ternata was very complex. Several peaks were chosen for characteristic fingerprint for which with relatively large area and high separation degree. The total area of characteristic peaks were less than 90% that of the total peaks, each chemical component was low in content.3 Fingerprints cluster analysis and similarity analysis results are basically the same:the cultivated samples and wild samples have significant difference in chemical composition. The kind of chemical composition of P. ternata in Jingzhou and other populations were consistent, but the content were variable.4 The content of guanosine in 18 P. ternata samples were 0.00019%-0.0025%. The content of ephedrine hydrochlorid were 0.00095%-0.010%,There was discrepancy in different samples of two alkaloids content in P. ternata, the content had no correlation between guanosine and ephedrine hydrochloride.
