Rice is one of the major grain crops in China. The illegal activities, such as "confusing one variety with another", frequently happen in the varieties trials and rice seed selling, which not only brought tremendous damages to the consumers and breeders, but also seriously destroyed the normal order of agricultural production and economy. It is a effective way to normalize the seed market radically that establish the DNA fingerprint database of crop varieties and the relevant variety identification standards. In this study, 56 hybrid rice parents were used to construct a DNA fingerprint database by using SSR markers ,which were widely popularized in Fujian Province. Based on the DNA fingerprint database, a data management system for rice DNA fingerprints was established by using visual basic 6.0 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The main results are as follows:1,Total of 130 SSR markers were randomly selected from the 12 rice chromosomes with each of 10-12 markers. Among these, there were 90 markers performed polymorphisms, accounting for 68.3%. But the polymorphism frequency of SSR markers in different chromosomes is various, with the highest up to 83.3% in chromosome 12, and the lowest just 50.0% in chromosome 8.2,17 markers performing clear band,good stability,high PIC value and well-proportioned distribution in the 12 chromosomes were chosen from above 90 markers to construct a fingerprint database composing of 56 hybrid rice parents×17SSR markers. By using the 17 markers, all the 56 parents can be distinguished completely, and most of them can be completely distinguished just using 10 SSR markers.3,By means of constructing the allele pools for every SSR marker, the expansion of the fingerprint database can be completed perfectly. When the fingerprint database must be expanded, the allele pools (CK) can be easily used to identify the fingerprints of new added varieties.4,Based on the correlative data analysis, Some suggestions were raised in this study, which are correlative to the identification standards of rice varieties:(1) How many SSR makers need to be used to identify that if a unknow rice varietie is same to the criterion. (2) How many SSR makers need to be used to identify the purity of rice varieties.5,According to C / S structure and based on above database, a data management system for rice DNA fingerprints was established by using visual basic 6.0 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The system has four functions: information confidential,database maintenance,information query and processing. Furthermore, it can perform the expansion of the database of information easily without any code modification. The system can be used to manage and process the DNA fingerprint information of rice varieties and other relevant information.
