Chouioia cunea Yang(Hymenoptera:Eulophidae) is an important parasitic nature enemy of fall webworm Hyphantria cunea(Drury) in its pupa and it plays an important role in controlling fall webworm population. In this article, the relationship between fecundity, developing time and body size of the female wasps were analyzed through observing ontogeny of female wasps;Genetic and biological characteristics of the wasps were studied through determining the appropriate temperature for cold storage and period of the wasps. The results were shown as follows:1.With the pupae of Ostrinia furnacalis(Guenee) as breeding hosts, the parasitic capacity of Chouioia cunea(Yang) was studied. The result is that the artifical propagation of C.cunea using the pupae of O.furnacalis is feasible. The offspring raised on the pupae of O.furncalis had high rates of parasitism and reproduction.2.With the pupae of Ostrinia furnacalis(Guenee) as breeding hosts, the ontogeny of Chouioia cunea(Yang) was studied. The morphology and embryonic and post-embryonic development of the C.cunea were described and illustrated in the paper. The result is useful for studying genetics and the ontogency mechanism of the wasps further.3.With the pupae of Ostriniafurnacalis(Guenee)as breeding hosts, the fecundity of the female wasps at different ages was studied. The result showed that the eggs were formed in ovaries at the initial period of emergence and no mature eggs were observed in ovaries at the early stage after emergence. And no mature eggs were observed in ovaries by 20h of adult life. However, all the mature eggs in the ovaries by 24h of adult life. The development and mature of eggs were almost at the same time.4.The relationships between fecundity and the body size of female wasps(using hind tibia length HTL as criterion) were studied. The result was that there was a significant positive linear relationship between egg load and female body size of C.cunea,so was between the female body size and lifetime fecundity. So the female body size could be a good indicator to assess the reproduction potentiality of the parasitoid. 5.The appropriate temperature for cold storage and period of the wasps were determined. The results were that the appropriate temperature for cold storage was about 7℃and the period of the wasps was pupa. These results could be C.cunea in the biological control.
