The traditional Chinese medicine was selected to restrain avian influenza virus H5N1 in vitro and vivo, the destination is to check the contribution of traditional Chinese medicine against avian influenza virus, and provide scientific base for clinical rational administration. The model infected by virus was established in vivo study, the medications were as followed: administering medicine after the animal infected by virus, infecting vims after the animal administered medicine and the animal given the medicine combined with virus, the cytopathic effect(CPE) method and MTT method were selected to observe the protective function of compound traditional Chinese medicine preparation to cells infected by avian influenza virus. The toxicity of traditional Chinese medicine to mouse in vivo, this destination was to assure the density of innocuity, and then mouse were infected by virus, some indexes were measured, for example death rate, average life days, mean weight, lung index and the inhibition ratio to pathological changes in lung. The purpose of the paper wan to discover a compound traditional Chinese medicine possessing a good effect against avian influenza virus, provide faithful base for the developing of traditional Chinese medicine against the virus. The results indicated that:1 .Cytotoxicity of compound traditional Chinese medicine preparation was lower than positive control group AMA in vitro, it indicated that compound traditional Chinese medicine preparation possesses a lower toxicity. Tts maximum of no toxicity concentration was 500μg/ml.2.Compound traditional Chinese medicine preparation possesses activity against avian influenza virus in vitro, therapeutic index (TI) was higher than the positive control group whose medicine was adamantanamine.3.Acute toxicity testing in vivo indicated that compound traditional Chinese medicine preparation was innocuity to mouse.4.Compound traditional Chinese medicine preparation possesses activity against avian influenza virus H5N1, the dosage groups of 20 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg could degrade death rate of mouse infected by avian influenza virus, improve the survival rate, extend the life days, and the preparation could restrain dead effect in mouse caused by avian influenza virus; the preparation could degrade the lung humid weight of mouse infected by avian influenza virus, it could restrain virus multiplication and pathological changes in mouse lung, it can restrain the mouse pneumonitis caused by avian influenza virus feffectively.
