Ardisia mamillata Hance,which is in branch of Myrsinaceae and subordinate to Ardisia Swartz.,is a new rare wild ornamental plant in 90s of 20th.With densely rusty and pilose amaranth on its leaves,which looks like the tongue of tiger,and voluptuous red fruit, it has a high ornamental value and medicinal value.This article through carries on 5 different grades of light(shading 35%,55%,75%, 95%and completely exposed in the sun) to deal with one cultivar of Ardisia mamillata Hance,observe the morphological characteristics and test the changes about photosynthetic rate,pigment,fluorescence,physiological traits in leaves.Analyze the effect of various Light intensities on the leaves characters of Ardisia mamillata Hance.The result showed:(1) In aspects of all tested traits,the inner of leaves of plants suffer some injury under the circumstance of shading 35%,55%and completely exposed for the net photosynthetic rate of leaves,value of Fv/Fm,and chlorophyll content reduced and praline and MDA content,as stress traits,increased.Consequently,these light intensities stress the growth of Ardisia mamillata Hance plants.Shading 75%and 95%treat in favor of sprout and enhancing extent of leaves,and therefore increase the ornamental value.However,the plant maybe caducity ahead of schedule when exposes completely in the sun.The result showed,Ardisia marnillata Hance is strictly shade-requiring plant.This point conflict to Xiao-ping Zeng's result which sort Ardisia mamillata Hance into the subtle shade-requiring plant.(2) The tentacles on the leaves of Ardisia mamillata Hance are the vital factor to obtain the ornamental impression,so the light intensity could effect the ornamental value by altering the characteristic of it.The tentacles are the transparent organism observed by microscope,as tube,and contain coloring liquid.We believe that this may be relative to the wonderful color when the sunlight shines the leaves of plant.(3) On the basis of composite physiometry,the changes about soluble sugar,praline, MDA content and POD activity occur in rules as the different light intensities.These indices can be used to evaluate the high light intensity resistance of Ardisia mamillata Hance plants.(4) The two-year-old leaves' resistances are as same as the contemporary leaves' in the base of the result of composite physiometry.Namely,the fictile characteristics of the contemporary leaves are much stronger than two-year-old leaves'.(5) In sum,the saw colour of Ardisia mamillata Hance plant is strongly effected by the sunlight.So we should keep the plants from being completely exposed in the sun in order to postpone pigments in leaves to reduce.Therefore,the Ardisia mamillata Hance plants should be placed in the environment around little sunlight,which could keep the vivid colors as long as possible,and much slower to reduce its ornamental value.In addition,we should actually consider the effect of temperature,when the content of chlorophyll in the leaves of the plants.
