With the increasingly enhancement of green environments and the multiple developments of the landscaping site conditions, ground covers, have been widely utilized in the urban green spaces, as a significant part of urban Green building and indispensable landscaping plant materials. Its diversity of variety, richness of color and the landscape seasonal aspect performance are able to reconcile arbors, shrubs and herbals of the landscape into a colorful and multilayer stereoscopic plant landscape. Developing ground covers is one of the effective approaches to maintain ecological equilibrium, protect environmental hygiene, beauty urban and rural outlook, alleviate air pollution and prevent soil erosion. Meanwhile, it is the richness of ground covers that plays a central role in keeping the stability of the community. There are few ground covers that adjust to Wuhan's climatic conditions. As a result, it is adverse either to the establishment and the stability of the community or to the playing community's ecological and landscape benefits. And it also results the relatively lagging situation of ground covers' cultivation and collocation in Wuhan.Based on the shortage of the poor use of ornamental ground covers in Wuhan city. this paper studied the cultivation, growth characteristics, phenophase and the ornamental value of 70 introduced new ornamental ground covers in Wuhan, assessed the application potentials of those plants by means of numerical scoring and selected 37 qualified ground covers as the candidates of landscape use. summarized 6 planting modes of ornamental ground covers in urban green spaces and contributed a series of application examples for Wuhan city.
