Drinking water is a necessity for human being, and safe drinking water is directly relative to physical and psychological health and living quality of human being. As the world's economy development is making us increase the demand for water resources, the quantity and quality of water resources are taking potential and fundamental changes, and the serious lack of water resources is gradually becoming a world's issue. In China, water lack and waste coexist, and drinking water security faces great threats. The most serious problems in water scarcity and ecological environment exist in Wuwei located in the northwest arid area in China. The water pollution and scarcity are aggravating gradually, and water security is becoming outstanding in Wuwei, especially in rural areas. To investigate and research the drinking water security of Wuwei is of great positive value in planning, implementing and managing the drinking water security projects in the area. The thesis makes the following conclusions via investigation and analysis.i.Via assorting and analyzing aboveground and underground water resources, underground water movements, water qualities, water features, changing trends, the current water supply, utilization and waste, It has been found that water is seriouly lacked in Wuwei. The water resources per capita is 27% of the national level and 7% of the world level.The thesis analyzes the construction of centralized and scattered water supply projects, the type of water source, and the current water quality. And it shows that certain achievements have been made in the construction of rural drinking water security projects, but the coverage rate of rural drinking water is 41% which is lower than the national average rate of 66%. All of the four indicators of regional water can not reach the national safety standards of rurual drinking water, including the most prominent water quantity and quality. Coliform bacteria, total dissolved solids, sulfate, and fluoride spreaded most widely in rural drinking water.ii. By analyzing the water price in Wuwei, it is concluded that if the cost of drinking water projects and benign development are taken into consideration, the rural water price is too low, and the management method is monotonous As the calculation of water value cannot be accurate as a result of the influence of water quality, water quantity and social economic development, the paper adopts vague digital model which features in comprehension and movements to calculate the water price.iii.Countermeasures are proposed to deal with the problems in drinking water security in Wuwei city. Meanwhile, the examples of successful implementation in Wuwei are selected and listed to make references to the construction of drinking water security projects.
