Objective To investigate the association between clinical features of the patients suffer from transient ischemic attack(TIA) and the finding of neck arteries disorder's position, character and the blood flow dynamics by color doppler ultrasonography. Methods We selected 101 patients with TIA (55 patients with vertebrobasilar TIA and 46 patients with carotid TIA )as study groups, and 70 normal adults as control group .The internal diameter, peak systolic velocity (Vs),mean velocity (Vm) and end diastolic velocity (Vd) were measured, The artery included the common carotid artery (CCA) ,the internal carotid artery (ICA), external carotid artery (ECA), vertebral artery (VA) and subclavian artery (SubA). pulsatility index (PI), resistance index (RI) and plaques position and feature were measured too. Results ①the rates of arterisclerotic plaques exist significant difference between TIA groups and control group. ②The arterisclerotic plaques in CCA and ICA were significantly high, while arterisclerotic plaques were mostly found at the beginning of SubA in vertebrobasilar TIA. ③Compared with patients with carotid TIA and controls, increased rates of unilateral vertebral artery abnormal winding and stenosis were found in patients with vertebrobasilar TIA, and the rates of decreased blood flow volecity, increased RI and PI were significantly higher than that of patients with carotid TIA and controls. Conclusions TIA is strongly associated with neck artery disorder. Different symptoms maybe caused by different blood vessel disorder at different size and with different character。...
