Objective To explore the relationship between expression ofmdr1 gene in human esophageal and cardiac cancer andclinicopathological changesMethods From Jan 1999 to Dec 2000 , a total of 161patients with esophageal or cardiac carnoma were recrutited, and mdrl mRNA were assayed by RT-PCR . Fresh tumortissues were surgically resected without chemotherapy beforeoperation. Results The positive rate of mdrl mRNA was34.78%(56/161) . The correlation between mdrl expressionand the age and sex of patients, tumor size, depth ofinvasion, histologic types, lymph node involvment and TNMstage was not significant.Collisions Because of highly expressive level of mdrl genein untreated esophageal and cardiac carcinoma, we shouldchoose appropriate chemotherapeutic regimen for esophagealand cardiac Ca. The expression of mdrl gene in untreatedcancer was independented of morphologic prognostic indexeswithout correlation between mdrl gene expression andmorphological indexes .
