Objective: In this study we try to observe and appraise the curative effects of sports therapy on the chronic low back pain. Methods: 20 female patients with chronic low back pain over 3 years or more were enrolled in this study. All of them were required to fell the tables of Oswestry Pain & Disability Questionnaire(OPDQ) and Visual Analogue Pain Scale(VAPS) before they receive 3 months of the special sports therapy which emphasize to train the abdominal and back muscles strength. New measurements Cobb Technique and Two Points Fixed were used. Several useful index including back movements, abdominal and back muscles strength, lumbar lordosis and angle of tilted sacrum were recorded before and after treatment respectively. Results: Compared with before treatments, we found: 1. more free back movements. 2. more strength of abdominal and back muscles. 3. smaller lumbar lordosis and angle of tilted sacrum. Conclusion: Our work indicated that: 1. The special sports therapy emphasized on training the abdominal and back muscles strength had obvious curative effects(P < 0.01, 0.001) on low back pain and could alleviate the pains(90%) and accelerate the recovers(P < 0.01). 2. Combing with OPDQ and VAPS could be a good method on the evaluation of degree of pains. 3. Back movements(P < 0.05,0.001), abdominal and back muscles strength, lumbar lordosis(P < 0.001) and angle of tilted sacrum were realizable and dependent index in appraising recovery of chronic low back pain. 4. Cobb Technique and Two Points Fixed could be two useful measurement methods in treatment of chronic low back pain.
