Background and Objective: Breast cancer is a main malignant tumor which is menacing women health. Every year, there are probably 120 ten thousands women who occur breast carcinoma and about 50 ten thousands patients who have gone their death for it at the whole world. The occurrence rate of breast cancer is developing by degrees. So far as to, breast cancerous occurrence rat has occupied at the first position during female malignant tumors in some cities. The age of occurrence has been expanded from the middle-old women to the young female patients. A large of female friends have paid close attention to breast carcinoma step by step. At the same time, many clinical doctors have regarded breast cancer as the focal point investigated. This study was to show the expressive extent of E-cadherin andα-catenin in atypical hyperplasia and intraductal carcinoma and breast invasive ductal carcinoma. At the same time, in comparison with the expression of two proteins in normal breast tissue, the aim is to reveal the expressive situation of E-cadherin andα-catenin in different stage disease of the breast in cell adhesion and inquire into the correlation of them in biological behavior including the degree of differentiation and the capability of tissue invasion and the situation of lymph node metastasis .The examination of E-cadherin andα-catenin may provide some assistance to clinical predict on the possibility of tissue invasion and metastasis and judgment on prognosis of breast carcinoma. Methods:The expression of E-cadherin andα-catenin in 71 cases of breast invasive ductal cancer and 32 cases of intraductal carcinoma and 33 cases of atypical hyperplasia and 15 cases normal breast tissue were determined using an immunohistochemical technique.Results:1.The expressive level of E-cadherin andα-catenin was decreasing with the degree of breast disease (P<0.05).2.In breast cancer , the expression of E-cadherin andα-catenin was obviously differen(tP<0.05) .At the same time, they were correlated highly with each other in breast invasive ductal cancer.(P<0.05)3. In breast cancer , the expressive extent of E-cadherin andα-catenin was negatively correlated with the degree of differentiation (P<0.05), lymph node metastasis (P<0.05).The expressive extent with lymph node metastasis was lower the extent without lymph node metastasis. The expressive extent with the low degree of differentiation was lower the extent with the high degree of differentiation. Conclusion:The expression of E-cadherin andα-catenin in breast disease is decreasing with the raise of disease degree . In breast cancer, the expression of E-cadherin andα-catenin is negatively correlated with the degree of differentiation and the capability of tissue invasion and the situation of lymph node metastasis. The expression of two proteins in breast carcinoma is obviously different ,they are associated with each other as well as. For that, E-cadherin andα-catenin may be regarded as an factor to judge the serious degree of disease and the capability of tissue invasion to serve the clinical.
