Objective: 1. To study the clinical significance of changes of serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and nitric oxide(NO) in patients of coronary heart disease(CHD). 2. To observe the relationship between the changes of these indexes and the degree of cardiac angina. 3. To investigate the change of these indexes after treatment between traditional Chinese drug treatment(TCDT) group and control group, and the difference between control group and TCDT group. Methods: 1. 40 cases with CHD were divided into TCDT group and control group randomly. The control group was treated by regular western medicine of Isosorbide Dinitrate and ASA while the TCDT group was treated by Guanxinshengmaiyin (GXSMY). 2. Test the amount of VEGF and NO in the serum of the two groups. 3. 16 healthy subjects served as normal group. Results: 1. The serum VEGF level in CHD patients was higher while NO level was lower than those in normal subjects(PO.Ol). 2. With the degree of angina pectoris getting worse, the level of serum VEGF rose and the level of NO descented. 3. There is a negative correlation between the two indexes. 4. The level of serum VEGF in TCDT group was higher after treatment than pretreatment(P<0.01), and there was no much change in control group before and after treatment. 5. Compared with pretreatment, the level of serum NO in TCDT group and control group rose significantly after treatment(P<0.01), but was lower than normal group. There was not remarkable difference between TCDT group and normal group (P>0.05), while the level of serum NO in control group was still lower than normal group (P<0.01). Conclusion: 1. The level of serum VEGF in CHD patients rose remarkably, while the level of serum NO descented significantly. 2. The serum VEGF and NO levels in TCDT group were higher after treatment than pretreatment (P<0.01), from which we can make a speculation thatGXSMY may have the function of angiogenesis. 3. The effect of those treated by traditionalChinese drug was better than those treated by regular western medicine.
