An fluorescence spectral method is proposed to analyze liverish, nephrotic and diabetic sera. The aim is to find difference between serum of healthy human and liver diseases patients in polarization fluorescence spectra. And to study the distinction between healthy and liverish, nephrotic, diabetic serum in fluorescence spectra. All of that attempt is to find whether the laser-induced auto-fluorescence spectra might be used to diagnose liver diseases. The autofluorescence spectra was excited by 488.0nm Ar-laser and collected in the range of 495.0nm-640.0nm. We studied twenty-five serum samples of health and fifty samples of pathological changes. The bandwidth of the serum polarization fluorescence spectra(SPFS) was calculated both in the full width at half maximum and 0.707 bandwidth in intensity. When compared the SPFS from the abnormal with that from the healthy, we found the former is always wider than the health corresponding to either bandwidth calculation. But this difference is not obvious in the serum fluorescence spectra.Data processing was concentrated on both position of the peak value(PPV) in the spectra and the ratio of the intensity correspond to the peak value(RIP). The PPV of nephrotic serum shows a red-shift comparing with that of the health one, but it not always does so. However, when we pay more attention to the spectra between 590.0nm and 630.0nm, the data process of the RIP can get a quite clear separation between the nephrotic serum and health one. Especially, the RIP at 630.Onm can be used to quantify the stage of the nephritic. In the study of diabetic sera, there is not obvious difference between the serum fluorescence spectra of health and diabetes. It is considered that difference of spectra between health and disease is due to the difference of fluorescent substance (bilirubin, vitamin C, porphyrin, porphyrin derivative). The difference of fluorescent substance is characteristic change of fluorescence spectrum of liver disease serum.
