OBJECTIVE: To investigate expression of integrin betal and VEGF in gastric carcinoma, its correlation with invasion and metastasis.METHODS: 1 Immunohistochemistry techniques were used to study the expression of integrin betal and VEGF in 63 gastric carcinoma specimens. 2 The methods of computer image analysis was used to study the expression of integrin betal. 3 Results was analysed by SAS version 8.0. We take the method of the Fisher probilities in 2X2 table of analysis of variance,x~2-text and ANOVA.RESULTS: 1 With histological grade increasing , the positive expression rates of integrin betal in the 63 gastric cancer group are 55.56%, 70.00%, 63.63%. No significant relationship is observed among age, sex and histological classification of the cancer(p>0.05). With the depth of invasion and lymphatic metastasis of the cancer increasing, integrin betal expression are improved. The positive rate of integrin betal among tubular adenocarcinoma, papillary carcinoma, mucinous carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma was 70.00% 55.56% 57.14% and 64.86%. No significant relationship is observed in it. Integrin betal in the cases with lymph node metastasis was significantly higher than those in the cases without lymph node metastasis(p<0.05).2 With histological classification increasing, the positive expression rates of VEGF in the 63 gastric cancer group were 77.78%, 80.00%, 86.36%. The positive rate of VEGF in male sex was 82.00%(41) and 92.30%(12). No significant relationship was observed among VEGF expression and age, sex, histological classification and depth of invasion of the cancer(p>0.05). Significant relationship was observed among VEGF expression and lymphatic metastasis of the cancer. VEGF in the cases with lymph node metastasis was significantly higher than those in the cases without lymph node metastasis(p<0.05).
