After intravenous injection, the effect of recombinant batroxobin(rBAT) on blood coagulation system in mice and rats were studied and it was found that rBAT has bidirectional effect on blood coagulation system. At lower dose it could promote the hemostasis action; however, at higher dose it showed the anticoagulationg effect. The mechanism of hemostasis effect of rBAT mainly consists in its fibrinopeptide release activity from fibrinogen and exposure of combining site in fibrinogen molecular. And the anticoagulation mechanism lies in the overmuch fibrinogen decrease. Because rBAT can not activate factor X HI, the fibrin induced by rBAT is unstable and soon hydrolyzed by fibrinolysis system. rBAT has reversible and functional toxic effect on liver and blood coagulate system.
