Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) do harm to human being health severely , we have not found special prevention and cure measure to anti-RSV infection. At present adrenalin is the maim medicine which is used to relieve the symptom of whoop, IFN instillation can alleviate and shorten course of diseases, ribavirin can alleviate virus RNA transcription. Ribavirin is certificated and used widely, but it's curative effect has been disputed still, ribavirin has severe side-effect also. To find a lower cost and less side effect medicament is a problem which should be solved . Vivo and vitro experiments were done to value the anti-virus effect of Elaeagnus Angustifolia Polysaccharide(EAP) , the mechanism underlying the function was also been probed into. We expected to develop a new anti-virus medicine which has utility value. 1. Toxicity of EAP in vitro We used MTT method to measure the influence of EAP on the proliferation of FL cell and Hela cell. EAP had not toxicity on FL cell and Hela cell. Limit tests showed that EAP had no toxicity to Blab/c mice . 2. Antivirus function of EAP in vitro In the group that Hela cells were treated with EAP then infected and in the group that virus and EAP cultivated then infect cell, the quantity of cell surviving was more than ribavirin control (P<0.05) when the dosage reached 500.00,250.00,125.00 and 62.50μg·ml-1. At the dosage of 31.25μg·ml-1, the quantity of cell surviving had no statistic significant compared with ribavirin control. In the group that the Hela cells were infected by RSV first then treated with EAP, the quantity of alive cell was less than ribavirin control but more than virus infecting control. 3. Anti-virus effect of EAP in vivo Compared with normal control, the mice in virus infecting control the alveolus interval width increased, blood vessel enlarged, congested and dropsied. Alveolus became consolidated, ramed and atrophy. EAP can meliorate mice pathology that were infected with RSV. In the group of EAP, alveolus interval became thin, the pathoLogy change had alleviated . The size of alveolus was more equality than RSV infecting control. Alveolus wall was complete and had no lack, alveolus antrum had very little extravasate. At the dosage of 50 mg·kg-1 , lung index and the lung tissue virus quantity had no statistic significant compared with ribavirin control. When the dosage reached 100 mg·kg-1and 200 mg·kg-1 , lung index and the lung tissue virus quantity were lower than virus infecting control and ribavirin control (P<0.05).
