Objective To study the mechanism of scalp penetration acupuncture treating cerebral infarction. Methods 62 cases with acute cerebral infarction were randomly divided into a scalp penetration acupuncture group and a western medicine group, 31 cases in each group. The patients in the two groups all were treated by routine neurological therapy for sixteen days. The penetration acupuncture "Baihui-Taiyang" was added to the scalp penetration acupuncture group. The contents of plasma endothelin (ET) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and nervous dysfunctional marks in the two groups were respectively compared before and after treatment. As the normal group, 28 healthy persons were observed the contents of plasma ET and CGRP.Results In the two patient's groups, the contents of plasma ET were higher and the contents of plasma CGRP were lower than that in the normal group (P<0.01). In the two patient's groups after treatment, the contents of plasma ET were obviously descent (P<0.01, P<0.05), and the contents of plasma CGRP were obviously ascent (P<0.01, P<0.05). But significant differences were between the two groups (P<0.05). The marks of nervous dysfunction were remarkably descent (P<0.01), and a significant difference was between the two groups (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 87.10% in the scalp penetration acupuncture group and its clinical curative effect was superior to the western medicine group. Conclusion The scalp penetration acupuncture is able to adjust the contents of plasma ET and CGRP better. So it can effect vasomtoricity and protect the neuron injury to cure patients with cerebral infarction and improve their prognosis.
