Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Capsules of Tang Wangkang for treatment of no-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). Method: 60 NIDM paients with NPDR were randomly assigned (30:30) to the test group (Tang Wangkang Capsules) and the controlled group (Calcium dobesilate Capsules). 30 cases (60 eyes) received oral Tang Wangkang Capsule, 24 cases (48eyes) received Calcium dobesilate Capsules, The whole observation lasted 3 months. Patients received periodic detailed ophthalmic examinations, visual acuity testing, blood fat, vascular endothelial growth factor, blood routine, urine routine, hepatorenal function, general physical examinations with electrocardiograms, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome inquiry and inspection. Results: (1) Tang Wangkang Capsules can improve vision and inhibiting DR lesion growth. The total therapeutic effective rate was 90.00% in the Tang Wangkang capsules group and 93.55% in the control group, and the changes were not significant between the groups(P>0.05).(2)The percent of cases of improving syndrome in TCM was 100% in Tang Wangkang Capsules, statistically superior to Calcium dobesilate Capsules and Calcium dobesilate Capsules for clinical efficacy(P<0.01).(3)the significant changes were observed as to the blood fat in Tang Wangkang Capsules group,but there were no significant changes were observed as to the blood fat in Calcium dobesilate Capsules or intragroup (P>0.05).(4)The content of VEGF was decreased in the Tang...
