Objection: to investigate the effect of LuoBiTong (LBT) on electrophysiological and morphological changes of sciatic nerve in the diabetic rats with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods: rats were used to induce to diabetes with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. model rats were divided randomly into four groups of model, TangMaiKang (TMK)and three doses of LBT. sciatic nerve conduction velocity were measured and electrophysiological changes were observed by electron microscope after treatment. Results: (1) rat model of diabetes with diabetic peripheral neuropathy is successful. (2) motor nerve conduction velocity of medical-treated groups were increased than those of model group (P<0.05), and those of high dose group of LBT were increased significantly than those of TMK group. (3)sciatic nerve morphomelries injury in model rats could be alleviated by LBT. There were significant decrease in the frequency of structurally abnormal fibril (P<0.01). Conclusion: (1) character of model rats is similar to that of diabetic patients. (2) existence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy were alleviated by LBT, and the effects were significant along with increase of dose of LBT.
