Objective: The squamous cell Carcinoma of tongue is the most common malignant tumor of the oral cavity, which is characterized by high malignancy, invasion growing and metastasis in local region and distinct organ. Up to now, surgery combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapeutics is the main therapy method for this tumor. Because facial deformity after the surgery and the poison side-effect for radiotherapy and chemotherapy, it is necessary to find a new medication which has better effect and little side-effect for the patients with the squamous cell Carcinoma of tongue, to reduce the death rate of the patients and improve their survival quality. Recent studies showed that Tanshinone IIA possessed cytotoxic effects against many kinds of human carcinoma cell lines, capacity of inhibiting the growth and inducing differentiation and apoptosis of tumor cells, which inhibited invasion and metastasis of cancer cells. However, the effect of Tanshinone IIA on the squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue cell line Tca-83 has not been reported in the documents. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of Tanshinone IIA on the growth and apoptosis in Tca-83 cells in vitro, explore the mechanism, and...
