Plants of Rumex L. are rich sources of anthraquinones, flavonoids, bibenzyl and nepodin. Many of them are used in fold and scientific medicine. The Rumex L. is used in fold medicine as a antibacterial, antivirus, hemostasic and to accommodate immunity and confront tumour. Rumex confertus W. belongs to the Rumex L. of polygonaceae and the whole plant or the root is used as medicine, which can be used in detoxifcation, defaecation and insecticide. The mainly works in this paper:1. The content of tannins of R.confertus was analysed with complexometric. It was result that the R.confertus root content was 20%, the stem 14%,the leave 13%,the seed 11.5%.2. With rutin being taken as the standard sample, the regression equation of rutin standard working carve: C(ug/mL)=103.61A-4.3057 was established and the correlation coefficent is r2=0.9938. It was result that the R. confertus root content was 50.294 mg/g, the stem 34.268 mg/g,the leave 15.48 mg/g,the seed 44.69 mg/g,the hull 43.03 mg/g. The results are as follows: there is different of content in variety organs of R. confertus and the highest content is in root. And by the experiment of recurrence, reclamation ratio and stability, the credibility of determining R. confertus total flavonoids content of variety organs by spectrophotometry was testified.3. A natural yellow pigment was extracted from the root of R.confertus for the first time. When a ethanol solution was used to extract, and then purificated buion exchang resin, the total yield of raw pigment can reach 21.3%. The experiment also includes the preliminary study of the effects of light, temperature, PH value, reductant, oxide, sucrose and metal ions on its stability. It proved that the pigment is strong inresistance against not only heat and light but also reductant and oxide. It can be applied to neutral condition.4. Eight compounds were isolated from the root of R.confertus including three anthraguinoes , five flavonoids for the first time . They are: emodin monomethylether, emodin, emodin-8-O-β-D-glucoside, isorhamnetin, quercetin,tricin-7-O-β-D-glucoside,quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucoside,lutin.
