[Objective]: This study was undertaken to investigate the expression of endostatin and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and to correlate this expression with the postoperative recurrence of HCC as well as CD105-labeled microvessel density (MVD) and Ki-67 proliferation index, and to determine the effect of endostatin and VEGF in angiogenesis of HCC.[Methods]: The clinical pathological records of 46 HCC patients who underwent hepatectomy were retrospectively reviewed, including 26 with complete follow-up visit after surgery. So were 21 normal hepatic tissues as the control group.Immunohistochemical staining for endostatin , VEGF, CD105 and Ki-67 was performed individually to each section according to non-biotin two-step method, so were HE staining and blank control. Slides were photographed after staining and pictures were analyzed with computer-aided photochromic picture analysis system. Then to make a quantitative analysis of the expression of endostatin and VEGF by accessing their mean density (MD) and integrate optical density (IOD); To determine MVD by labeling the vascular endothelial cells with CD105; To study the cell proliferation by Ki-67 index.[Results]: 1,The expression of Endostatin was mainly in HCC,and was lower in HCC tissue than in its adjacent tissue. It shows significant difference of MD and IOD in HCC tissue compared with the adjacent tissue (P <0.05,P <0.01).When compared with normal hepatic tissues, the MD difference was unsignificant (P =0.471),and the IOD difference was significant (P <0.05). The expression of Endostatin was positively correlated with the time for the postoperative recurrence of HCC(r =0.669 ,P <0.01).However,it was negatively correlated with MVD and Ki-67 index(r =-0.312 ,P <0.05;r =-0.330 ,P <0.05).2,The expression of VEGF was higher in HCC tissue than in its adjacent tissue and...
