OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of PTEN , Survivin and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) by immunohistochemistry in ovarian epithelial carcinomas, benign ovarian epithelial tumors and normal ovary tissues. To analyses their correlation with clinical stages, histological types and grades of ovarian epithelial carcinoma.PATIENTS and METHODS: We detected expression of COX-2 ,PTEN and survivin by immunohistochemistry in specimens from 57 ovarian epithelial carcinomas,20 benign ovarian epithelial tumors and 10 normal ovary issues using the anti-COX-2, PTEN and survivin antibodies.57 samples of ovarian epithelial carcinomas include 20 cases ofⅠ~Ⅱstage and 37 cases ofⅢ~Ⅳstage ;27 cases of G1, 8 cases of G2 and 22 cases of G3. 38 serous carcinomas, 7 mucinous carcinomas ,8 endometrioid ovarian cancers and 4 clear-cell adenocarcinomas.RESULTS: (1) the positive expression of COX-2 and Survivin in ovarian epithelial carcinomas was significantly higher than in benign ovarian epithelial tumors and normal ovary issues(P<0.01). (2) overexpression of COX-2 was observed in 50.88% of ovarian epithelial carcinomas, The levels of COX-2 expression were found no significant differences in different clinical stages, different histological grades and different histological types(P>0.05). (3) the positive expression of PTEN was significantly lower in ovarian epithelial carcinomas than in benign ovarian epithelial tumors and normal ovary issues(P<0.05). Statistically significant higher percentage of...
