Introduction and objectivesWith the development of ESWL and endoscopic lithotripsy ,traditional opening surgery for the treatment of urological stone disease were almost disappeared due to its more invasive and longer postoperative recovery. Herein we try to seek a safer and reliable method by using ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy.Materials and MethodsMaterials217 cases were involved in this study, male 138 and female 79 cases. Average age was 44.4yd(16-72y). Diameter of stone was 13mm(5-30mm). time of stone stay was 2 month(2d-5y). location of the stone was upper ureter 33 cases, media and lower ureter stone 184 cases. 29 with polyps and 6 with ureter stricture.36 had histry of ESWL. 16 with hydronephrosis and fever. 2 were solitery kidney. Methods:Under epidural anesthesia and lithotomy position, all the patients" were underwent ureteroscopical laser lithotripsy and resection of polyps and incision of the stricture segment in some cases.Statistical analysisStatistical analysis was carried out using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS), version 10.0 for windows. The Chi-square test was used to test the stain ofresult. P-values <0.05 were considered to be statistically significant.Results207 of 217 (95.4%) were suceed and free of calculi .success rate was 78.79% in upper ureteral calculi . calculi were back to pelvis in 7 cases and patients were free of calculi by ESWL 5 cases and secondery laser lithotripsy 2 cases. Success rate was 98.37%(181/184) in media and lower ureteral calculi. Stones were back to pelvis in 3 cases and the patients were free of stone by postoperative ESWL in 1 case and secondery laser lithotripsy in 2 cases.16 cases with infection were treated by laser after control of the infection. Of which 12 were succeed and 2 were drained by double J stent and ESWL. 22 cases found postoperative gross hematuria and 6 with fever were treated succesfuly.ConclusionsUreteral holmium laser lithotripsy is a mini-invasive safe and repeative methods for ureter calculi disease with high effectiveness.
