Objective: Through the detection of IL-4 and IFN-γin cerebrospinal fluid from children with enteroviral central nervous system infection and carrying out the correlated analysis with the expressing level of NSE, Immune pathogenesis with enteroviral central nervous system infection will be investigated.Method: In the 40 child patients with enteroviral central nervous system infection and 30 normal children, and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)IL-4, IFN-γand NSE were determined by ELISA method, The results of determination were analysed statistically.Result: IFN-γand NSE levels in the enteroviral(EV) central nervous system infection were markedly elevated compaired with those of normal controls (p<0.01), but IL-4 level decreased significantly; The results of linear correlation showed that there exists a positive correlation between IFN-γand NSE (r=0.765, p<0.01). A negative correlation between IFN-γand IL-4 (r=-0.615, p<0.01). Additionally, IL-4 activity was negatively correlated to NSE level (r=-0.656, p<0.01). The correlation of IFN-γ/IL-4 and NSE is the best (r=0.799. p<0.01).Conclusion: IFN-γand IL-4 take part in the immune attack of enteroviral central nervous system infection. There has a close relationship between imbalance of IL-4/IFN-γand neuronal damage with enteroviral central nervous system.
