Objective: To explore the role played by TNF-related apoptosisinducing ligand (TRAIL)and its receptors (DR5,DcR1) in spontaneousabortion(SA) through observing the expression of TRAIL,DR5 and DcR1in placental villus of patients with SA and controls.Method: Semi-quantitative reverse transcript Polymerase ChainReaction (RT-PCR) was used to detect the mRNA expression of TRAIL,DR5 and DcR1 in placental villus of 30 SAs and 30 controls.Immunohistochemistry was operated to detect the protein expression ofTRAIL, DR5 and DcR1 in placental villus of 30 SAs and 30 controls.Result: (1)The gene expression of TRAIL,DR5 and DcR1 ofplacental villus had a significant difference btween the two groups. Thegene expression of TRAIL and DR5 among SA group were higher thancontrol group,TRAIL (P<0.01),DR5 (P<0.01). The gene expression ofDcR1 was higher in control group than that of SA group (P<0.01).(2)Theprotein expression of TRAIL/DR5 were less in placental villus amongcontrol group compared with SA group,TRAIL (P<0.01),DR5 (P<0.01).There is little or no DcR1 protein expression in placental villus of SAgroup. DcR1 protein expression was higher in control group than that ofSA group (P<0.01).Conclusion: The out-of-banlance of TRAIL, DR5 and DcR1 which may mediate excessive apoptosis in trophoblast, which may play animportant role in SA.
