The Expression And Significance Of Insulin-Like Growth Facter Ⅱ (IGF-Ⅱ) And Their Receptor (IGF-ⅡR) In Human Meningiomas

Objective: This study was to explore the expression of insulin-like growth factor-II (IGF-II) and insulin-like growth factor-II receptor (IGF- IIR) in different pathology grade of meningioma and in human normal brain tissue.To evaluate the relationship between the expression of IGF- II ,IGF- IIR and the pathology grade,prognosis of meningioma.Methods : The immunohistochemistry (Sp assay)was adopted to determine the expression of IGF-IIand IGF-IIR in 38 cases of meningiomas and 6 cases of normal brain tissues . Relationship between the expression of IGF- II ,IGF- IIR and the pathology grade, the relapse time after operation were ananlyzed.Results1.The normal brain tissue has no the expression of IGF-IIand IGF- IIR protein. The difference of the expression of IGF-II ,IGF-IIR in normal brain tissue and benign meningioma was not statistically significant (p>0.05). There was a significant difference of the expression of IGF-II ,IGF-IIR between normal brain tissue and atypical or malignant meningioma (P<0.05).2.There were different expression levels of IGF- II and IGF- IIR in various pathology grade of meningioma.The expression levels of IGF-II and IGF-IIR in benign meningioma group were lower significantly than atypical group or malignant group(P<0.001).The expression levels of IGF-II and IGF-IIR in malignant meningioma was higher than atypical meningioma, but the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05)3. There were expression of IGF- II and IGF- IIR in the various pathology grades of meningioma.The increasing of the expression level of IGF-II and IGF-IIR protein accompanied with increasing the pathology grade of meningioma.4. There was a negative relationship between the exression of IGF-II, IGF-IIR in meningioma and the relapse time after operation.Conclusion:1. There was a close correlation between the expression of IGF-II , IGF-IIR in meningioma and the development of meningioma.2. To detectation the expression of IGF-II and IGF-IIR protein might be evaluate the histological grade of meningioma,and plays certain roles in prognosis evaluation.
