Menispermum dauricum DC. is the plant of the Menispermum which belongs to Mennispermaceae family and distributes widely in China. The character of the dry rhizoma of Menispermum dauricum DC. is bitter and cold. It has the action of clearing heat and detoxifying, treating arthritis disease and eliminating pain, relieving swell, which is used for treating swelling and pain in the throat. People used to only pick roots of it as Chinese medicine, getting rid of leaves and stem. As a result, the resources of M. dauricum DC. are seriously destroyed. Almost all research work about M. dauricum DC. focuses on root, only a little on leaves and stem. To enlarge the officinal resource, and protect the plant resource, we studied the chemical components of its leaves and stem, summarized the components, medical function and application briefly. It was found that the leaves and stem of Menispermum dauricum DC. contain alkanoids, flavonoids, terpenes, anthraquinones, coumarins and so on by preliminary study. The antimicrobial effects of the n-butanol extract from leaves and stem of M. dauricum DC., and 6 fractions from the n-butanol extract by column chromatography against two kinds of germs, two kinds of yeasts and nine kinds of molds were accomplished. The results indicated that the extract had antimicrobial effect, and Fr.1 and Fr.2 had strong antimicrobial activities. Meanwhile, the n-butanol extract, Fr.1 and Fr.2 had antisepsis effect for food, and can be developed to be a natural food antiseptic agent. We derived six compounds from the n-butanol extract. They are compoundⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,ⅤandⅥ.Then we mensurated the Minimal Inhibition Concentration against two kinds of germs, two kinds of yeasts and nine kinds of molds. It was found that CompoundⅠhad medium antimicrobial activity. CompoundⅡcan strongly restrain the bacteria. CompoundⅢandⅣhad common antimicrobial activity. On the basis of chemical reaction and spectral data(UV,MS,IR,1H-NMR,13C-NMR,HMBC and HMQC), five compounds were elucidated as acutumine(Ⅰ), sinomenine(Ⅱ),quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucosylside (Ⅲ),kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucosylside(Ⅳ)andβ-daucosterol(Ⅵ). CompoundⅠand compoundⅡare isolated from the leaves and stem of M.dauricum DC. for the first time.
