Objective:We want to guide the choice of contrast media in the clinically old hypertension patients by the nephrotoxicity comparison of iso-osmolar nonionic contrast media and low-osmolar nonionic contrast media in old spontaneously hypertensive rats with renal impairment. Methods: Eighteen old spontaneously hypertensive rats were randomized into three groups and intravenous injected with iso-osmolar nonionic contrast media and low-osmolar nonionic contrast media. We compare the BUN and Scr of pre-administration and post- administration. At last we make use of light microscope and transmission electron microscope to observe the kidney of rats. Results:The post- administration BUN and Scr of SHR Iodixanol-320 group and SHR Iohexol-640 group had a rise compared with the pre- administration(The post- administration BUN and Scr of SHR Iodixanol-320 group were 11.7±0.33 mmol/L and 53.43±3.8 umol/L,compare with the pre-administration 7.58±0.53 mmol/L and 41.28±1.23 umol/L, P<0.05; The post- administration BUN and Scr of SHR Iohexol-640 group were 11.07±0.59 mmol/L and 57.65±5.12 umol/L, compare with the pre-administration 7.22±0.22 mmol/L与42.25±1.77 umol/L, P<0.05). The BUN and Scr of post- administration and the Pathology integration of acute renal failture were not significant between the group of SHR Iodixanol-320 and the group of SHR Iohexol-640.(The Pathology integration of acute renal failture of SHR Iodixanol-320 group was 79.83±10.26, compare with the SHR Iohexol-640 group 94.83±6.11, P>0.05)Conclusions:Both Iodixanol-320 which is iso-osmolar nonionic contrast media and Iohexol-640 which is low-osmolar nonionic contrast media had toxic effect on the kidney with functional lesion. The nephrotoxicity of two contrast media had no significantly difference in the old spontaneously hypertensive rats.
