Ixeris sonchifolia (Bge.) Hance (Compositae family) mainly is distributed in mountain area, half mountain area and Xiaoxinganling region of the south and east part of China northeast. It has been used as a Chinese folk medicine in invigorating circulation of blood, normalizing menstruation, and elimination blood stasis to relieve Pain. It could be used for curing appendicitis, enteritis, dysentery, throwing up blood etc. and it has been commonly used in treating headache, toothache, chest pain, stomachache and light pain after an operation, now frequently used in coronary heart disease. In recent years there are more and more researches on its chemical composition, pharmacological action and clinic function, the wild Ixeris sonchifolia (Bge.) Hance, therefore, could not meet the demand as the consuming amount increased continuously. For this reason, people have paid more attention to its cultivation, purification of the fiavonoids active component and quality control. According to literatures, the main active substances in Ixeris sonchifolia (Bge.)Hance are adenosine and flavonoids etc., the luteolin and pelargidenon are the two common composites of flavonoids, which, thus, are selected as the targets in researching the quality control of Ixeris sonchifolia (Bge.) Hance.Along with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been applied increasingly and extensively in the world, it is urgent to establish a simple, practical, overall and effective evaluation system. From the view of chemistry composition, the TCM is a complicated compound pool including lots of structure type, so only analyzing one target composition but for the whole quality of the TCM is not enough.The TCM fingerprint technique is used as a valid method for controlling and evaluating crude drugs, intermediate and final product, that has become the focus in studying quality control of TCM, and also acknowledged as one of the valid means in globally controlling the quality of TCM.The purpose of the study is the quality control to Ixeris sonchifolia (Bge.) Hance, and including the methodology investigation. Based on the research, it is researched that the dynamic and changing law of adenosine, luteolin, pelargidenon and total flavonoids in herbs' different parts and collected at different time, and the method of the HPLC to fatty composites was established. The method of cluster analysis was studied also with the data treatment from different harvest time and different part experiments. This is the first research in the Ixeris sonchifolia (Bge.) Hance. The experiment methods include HPLC chromatogram, colorimetry, fingerprint technique, method of cluster analysis. The results indicate: 1. the evaluating method is high precise with a high recovery rate, and well recurrent and stable. 2. comparison in the different harvest time show that total flavonoids and adenosine content reach the highest in 15th May; luteolin and pelargidenon content reach the highest in 14th June; total flavonoids, adenosine, luteolin and pelargidenon content reach the lowest in 7th July. 3.â‘¢comparison of the different parts in the same harvest time show that adenosine, luteolin and pelargidenon content are the highest and total flavonoids content is the second in its flowers; adenosine, luteolin and pelargidenon content are the second and total flavonoids content is the highest in its leaves; adenosine, luteolin, pelargidenon and total flavonoids content are the lowest in its roots. 4. the chromatogram of the HPLC to fatty composites is stable and may have well applied value, the fatty composites content in its flowers is very similar to the June's whole plant, this will supply a theoretic base.
