Study On The Expression And Relation Of COX-2 And VEGF In Oral Lichen Planus

Objective:This study aims to investigate the role of COX-2 and VEGF in the genesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma by means of evaluation on their expression in oral lichen planus,leukoplakia and squamous cell carcinoma.Methods:The expression of COX-2 and VEGF were studied in 33 cases of oral lichen planus(OLP),35 cases of oral leukoplakia(OLK),31 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC)and 10 cases of normal oral mucosa by SP immunohistochemistry.The number of positive cells was counted by image analysis system,COX-2 and VEGF expression was analyzed by statistical method.Results:1.The overexpression rate of COX-2 in the OLP was 26.3%,71.43% in the OLP with dysplasia,21.42%in the OLK,80.95%in the OLk with dysplasia,93.55%in the OSCC.The expression intensity of COX-2 in the OLP with dysplasia was higher than that in the OLP(p＜0.05),the expression intensity of COX-2 in the OLK with dysplasia was higher than that in the OLK(p＜0.01),there were no significant differences between the OLP and OLK with dysplasia(p＞0.05),the expression intensity of COX-2 in the OSCC was higher than that in the OLP and the OLK with dysplasia(p＜0.01).2.The overexpression rate of VEGF in the OLP was 26.32%,64.29 %in the OLP with dysplasia,21.42%in the OLK,71.43%in the OLk with dysplasia,90.32%in the OSCC.The expression intensity of VEGF in the OLP with dysplasia was higher than that in the OLP(p＜0.05),the expression intensity of VEGF in the OLK with dysplasia was higher than that in the OLK(p＜0.01),there were no significant differences between the OLP and OLK with dysplasia(p＞0.05),the expression intensity of VEGF in the OSCC was higher than that in the OLP and the OLk with dysplasia(p＜0.05).3.The expression of COX-2 is significantly related with the expression of VEGF in the OLP,OLK,OSCC and NOM.Conclusion:1.The abnormal expressions of COX-2 and VEGF are correlated with the canceration of OLP.2.OLP with dysplasia that highly expression COX-2 and VEGF has a tendency to deteriorate,which should be closely follow up.3.The expression of COX-2 is significantly related with the expression of VEGF,therefore,the EPR/CAMP/VEGF pathway may act as an important role in the regulation of angiogenesis in oral lichen planus canceration.
