Objective:To investigate the role of oncogene pim-1 and oncogene c-myb in the genesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma by means of evaluation on their expression and distribution in oral lichen planus, leukoplakia and squamous carcinoma.Materials and Methods:The expression and distribution of oncogene pim-1 and oncogene c-myb were studied in 30 cases of oral lichen planus (OLP),30 cases of oral leukoplakia (OLK),30 cases of oral squamous carcinoma (OSCC) and 10 cases of normal oral mucosa (NOM) by SP immunohistochemistry with the pim-1 rabbit anti-human polyclonal antibody and c-myb rabbit anti-human polyclonal antibody. The rate of positive reaction was observed by image analyzed using Image-Pro Plus software.Results:1) The positive rate of pim-1 and c-myb in OSCC were 86.67% and 80%, and expressions of both were higher than NOM, OLP and OLK(P<0.05). The positive rate of pim-1 and c-myb in OLP were 40% and 43.33%, and that in OLK were 46.67%and 43.33%. There was no significant difference between the positive rate of pim-1 and c-myb in OLP and OLK (P>0,05), which were higher than NOM(P<0.05).2) Significant pim-1 and c-myb immumoreacitvity were seen in OSCC, moderate expression in OLP and OLK, and negative expression in NOM. The difference of average staining intensity was statistically significant. No significant difference in expressions of pim-1 and c-myb were found between OLP and OLK(P>0,05).3) The expression of pim-1 was significantly related with the expression of c-myb (r=0.520, P<0.05) in OLP,OLK,OSCC and NOM.Conclusion:1) The abnormal expressions of pim-1 and c-myb are correlated with canceration of OLP and OLK.2) Expression differs in OSCC as pim-1 and c-myb, asuming it helps OSCC occuring by synergy effects.
