Pomegranate flowers are used in XinJiang folk medicine to cure antiphlogosis, protect tooth, antidysentery, etc. Predecessors mainly are focused on pomegranate bark, and pomegranate flowers are researched very few. This essay studies pomegranate flowers from the following three faces:1. Pomegranate flowers contain flavonoids, anthraquninone, carbohydrates, saponin, amino acid, polypeptide, cardiac glycoside, organic acid and such like by qualitative analysis.2. With the content of total flavonoids as an index, the orthogonal design of four factors and three levels were used to select the optimum extraction process. The optimum extracting condition as follows: The concentration of ethanol was 45%, the ratio of material and alcohol was 1:40, the time of extraction was 0.5 hour and the temperature was 60℃. The flavonoids can be reached to 62.70 mg/g under this condition.3. The flowers were extracted with 60% ethanol for many times. The residue was mixed by water, and then extracted with petroleum ether, diethyl ether, ethyl acetate and n-butanol in turn. With silica gel for chromatography, seven compounds were isolated. Structures of three compounds were verified. They are kaempferol, quercetin and rutin. The compoundⅢneed to be studied furthermore.
