Objective : To investigate the correlation between the expressions of tumour suppressor gene PTEN and oncogene C-myc in lung carcinoma. Methods : The expressions of PTEN and C-myc protein in normal lung tissue and lung carcinoma were observed by S-P immunohistochemical assay. Results : (1)The expression of C-myc in the lung carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in the normal lung tissues(P<0.01); The positive expression of PTEN protein in the lung carcinoma tissues was significantly lower than that in the normal lung tissues(P<0.01).(2)â‘ Difference was not found in groups of pathological types , differentiated degree and lymph node metastasis (P>0.05);â‘¡The expression of C-myc might increase concomitant with the progress from well group lung cancer to poor group lung cancer. On the contrary,a general decreasing tendency of PTEN seemed to accompany;â‘¢The positive rate of C-myc was higher in lymph node metastasis than that in non-lymph node metastasis, though the positive rate of PTEN was lower in lymph node metastasis than that in non-lymph node metastasis. (3) The level of C-myc protein expression was negatively correlated with PTEN expression(r=-0.4479,P< 0.01).Conclusion: C-myc protein overexpression and the underexpression of PTEN was closely related to clinicopathological features in lung carcinoma, and could be used as a marker of tumour burden of lung carcinoma.
