Objective To explore the expression of stomatin-like protein 2(SLP-2) in primary epithelial ovarian caicinomas and investigate the relationship of SLP-2 with the clinicopathological characteristics of ovarian caicinomas by constructing and applying high—throughput tissue microarrays and immunohistochemistry. Methods The expression of SLP-2 was analyzed retrospectively by tissue microarray(8×5) technology and immunohistochemistry in 69 patients with the primary epithelial ovarian tumors,9 patients with borderline tumors and 13 patients with the metastatic ovarian tumors and in 22 control subjects with normal ovarian tissues.Analyse the relationship of the expressions of SLP-2 in ovarian cancers with clinical pathology of FIGO staging, cell differentiation, pathotypes, lymphonodes metastasis, cancer genesis parts, age of onset and preoperational level of CA125.Compare the differences of the expressions of SLP-2 in primary ovarian cancer and metastatic ovarian cancer, and the differences in the lyrnphonodes with cancer metastasis and normal lymphonodes of patients with ovarian caicinoma.Results1.The SLP-2 was significantly higher in primary epithelial ovarian tumors(88.41%) and borderline tumors(88.89%) than in normal ovarian tissues(18.18%)(P<0.05).2.The expression of SLP-2 was not closely related to FIGO staging, cell differentiation, pathology type, lymphonodes metastasis, cancer genesis parts, age of onset or preoperational level of CA125(P>0.05).3.There was no significant difference of SLP-2 in the primary ovarian cancer(88.41%) and metastatic ovarian cancer(100%)(P>0.05). 4.The expression of SLP-2 in the lymphonodes with cancer metastasis(81.82%) is significantly higher than that in the normal lymphonodes(0.00%) of patients with ovarian caicinoma(P<0.05).Conclusion1.The high expression of SLP-2 in primary epithelial ovarian cancer might foreshow that it may take part in the generation and development of primary epithelial ovarian cancer.2.The high expression of SLP-2 in primary epithelial ovarian cancer has no relationship with FIGO staging, cell differentiation, pathotypes, lymphonode metastasis, cancer genesis parts, age of onset and preoperational level of CA125, which indicates it might be a good early diagnostic molecular marker, but have not that much significance as to prognosis.3.The ovarian carcinoma cell still expresses SLP-2 highly when metastases to lymphonode. And it suggests that the characteristic of SLP-2's high expression is unchanged after metastasis.4.The molecular mechanism of SLP-2 taking part in the generation and development of primary epithelial ovarian cancer is still unknown and need luther study.
