Objective:To evalulate the possible effects of women's lifestyle , dietary factors ,folate on cervical cancer and investigate the risk factors of cervical cancer in Xiamen and Fuzhou. The result would offer some new evidences for etiology of cervical cancer and give the theoretical evidences to prevent the occurrence of this disease.Method: A hospital-based case-control study was conducted in The First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, Fujian Provincial Hospital, Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Fujian, Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Xiamen and The First Hospital of Xiamen from July 2007 to December 2008. 156 cases with cervical cancer (114 cases) and CINⅢ(51 cases) newly diagnosed by pathology and 248 other gynecological patients were interviewed in the study .A standardized questionnaire was used to elicit risk factors of cervical cancer includinging related agents and dietary factors. The food questionnaire was used in this study to provide an estimate of foods before 5 years of disease diagnosed .Serum folate and vitamin B12 was measured by radiobinding assay to evalulate the possible effects of folate and vitamin B12 on cervical cancer. The blood sample were drawn before breakfast.Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 13.5.Relust:(1)Cigarette smoking, passive smoking, parity, drinking tea, intaking fish, meat and fruit ,cervicitis or microorganism infection related to cervical cancer risk.(2)In cases, the age of onset in Xiamen is lower then it in Fuzhou(41.36±9.572 vs 44.38±7.6). The percentage of the cervical carcinoma who were below 35 years was 27.63% in Xiamen and 12.36% in Fuzhou. There is an increasing prevalence of the cervical carcinoma in young women in Xiamen. (3)Serum folate in cases is lower than it in control(14.193±6.684 n mol /l vs 16.632±6.54 n mol /l).Low folate status might be a risk for cervical cancer, the odds ratios is 1.808 (95%CI=2.49-9.83). There was no significant relation between vitamin B12 and cervical cancer risk.(4)Serum Folate and passive smoking, cervicitis, drinking tea showed a significant interaction in the development of cervical cancer. Conclusions: (1)Cigarette smoking, passive smoking, parity, cervicitis or microorganism infection were the risk factors of cervical cancer. Drinking tea, intaking fish, meat and fruit might be protective factors for cervical cancer. (2) There is an increasing prevalence of the cervical carcinoma in young women in Xiamen. Endemic distribution related to cervical cancer risk.(3) Low folate status might be a risk for cervical cancer. Serum Folate and passive smoking, cervicitis, drinking tea showed a significant interaction in the development of cervical cancer.
